Super Collinge Sinks Bridge

Oliver Collinge returned handsome career best 1st XI figures as Booth continued their good recent form with a five-wicket win at Sowerby Bridge.

Winning the toss on a sporting deck, Booth soon made inroads into Sowerby’s top order. Batting was never straightforward on the damp track and Sowerby stumbled their way to 120 all out. Young Collinge, who is growing in stature each week, gave an excellent exhibition of swing and seam to finish with 6-55 off nineteen overs.

Belying his tender years, he bowls more like a gnarly old seamer, nipping it around outside off stump and inviting batsmen to their downfall. Richard Laycock and wily veteran Ian Sharkey ably supported him with two wickets each.

In reply, Booth weathered a typically hostile burst from ‘Bridge openers Lee Smith and Ian Hartley, but were soon in a spot of bother at 71 for 5. But new batting find Robert Cockroft and old-hand Sharkey steered them home; Cockroft ending with a fine 35 not out, including two trademark upper-cuts for 6 off Smith into the river.
