Booth 2nds 200-8 Vs Northowram 2nds 219-5
After a torrential downpour all Morning, it was somewhat of a surprise when the covers were removed, to find the wicket unaffected and in pristine condition. Consequently, the match started as billed at 2pm. Booth won the toss and elected to field first.
The Northowram innings started slowly, with only 30 coming off the first 10 overs, as a result of some accurate bowling from both Finney and Horsfall. This opening spell was followed by a short rain delay, after which one of the Northowram openers had to retire, straining his side chasing a ‘wider one’ from Hussain. From this point onwards Booth bowled a number of tight overs with Thomas and Hussain to the fore. Unfortunately, the regular breakthough’s which Booth coveted were not achieved and this allowed Northowram to accelerate their scoring towards the end the innings with Little and Stocks both scoring 50’s. However, Booth finished the innings strongly, with Thomas taking 2 wickets to end with figures of 10-1-35-2 and the Northowram total of 219-5 although challenging looked obtainable.
Booth started their innings confidently with both openers making starts. After Lumb was unfortunately run out, spread-eagled in the middle of the wicket, trying to turn round to make his ground, with the score on 66, a significant partnership developed between Thomas and Horsfall. This partnership manoeuvred Booth to 142, before the occurrence of a further run out, through which Thomas had to depart for a creditable 54. From this point onwards, the increasing run rate meant chances had to be taken by the incoming batsmen and wickets fell at regular intervals, eventually culminating in Booth falling short of the score required by 19 runs, at 200-8.
After a good performance, Booth 2nds now have to turn their minds to a big game against Kings Cross next Saturday, where a similar level of performance should lead to greater dividends.
