Booth v Illingworth 13th July
Booth Sunday team suffered its heaviest ever defeat when thrashed by Illingworth by 268 runs.
Illingworth won the toss and chose to bat first. Booth’s opening bowlers Naz Hussain and Josh Oliver bowled well early on, both taking a wicket and having a catch dropped. After 10 overs Illingworth were struggling on 30-2.
Illingworth then upped the scoring rate through Jamie Moorhouse 89, Callum Cook 132 not out, and a quick century from Nazkat Ali. Despite the free flowing runs the young Booth side didn’t let their heads drop and came back well to take two late wickets and claim a second bowling point.
Illingworth’s 364-5 looked a challenging total, particularly after the late withdrawal of Booth’s own run machine Mohammed Jamil. Booth’s inexperienced top order soon subsided to 33-7, and a defeat by over 300 runs looked inevitable. However, a quick 20 from Josh Oliver soon took the score passed 60, before experienced campaigners Michael Finney (23) and Mike Barnett (10) took the score to 96 and in sight of an unlikely batting point, before both were out in quick succession.
